Saturday, July 8, 2006: Today's been a mighty nice warm day so far. I'm still waiting around for news about a job. I applied at that school and on Wednesday I have to take a civil service test in Scranton. I hope it works out with one or the other of them or even the employment agency. Until then I keep busy with my many anonymous blogs. This has been a very busy birthday month. All sorts of birthdays keep sneaking up on us. Next Friday I have to go to a Carmelite meeting. Yesterday on the phone I heard from Wayne from the KofC. I should have stuck around for the meeting a few nights ago but to everyone's chagrin I left.
Monday, July 10, 2006: Over the course of the past few days, I watched Mysterious Island (with Herbert) and Heaven Can Wait (Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Buck Henry, Dyan Cannon and all sorts of 70s stars.) The weather's been warm lately and last night was a very big thunderstorm. There's only 2 more days to go until my big test- civil service, that is. All the churches around here are making changes because of priest shortages.
Tuesday, July 11, 2006: Ugh!! Tomorrow is my big civil service test over in Scranton. Today must be a veritable bane thereof of liberals everywhere because it is the Feast of St. Benedict of Nursia, a namesake of Pope Benedict XVI and a co-patron of Europe. He founded the western monastic tradition which contributed so much to the beauty of western culture. Last night, I watched Tom Jones. I also finished-yes, finally and at last-The Brothers Karamazov and have moved on to Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood. That's the one the liberals don't like because it frequently repeats the n word.
Wednesday, July 12, 2006: The test is finally and at last over with. It was pouring out over the course of the night. The weather was a smidge better by the time I took the test though. It was in Scranton. It's most certainly not as if I've never been throught one before. It's odd because in New York well over 150 people at a time show up for it. Out here, though, there were fewer than twenty of us. Most New York applicants are black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. but most of these characters were white. It was still an extremely seriously annoying test, unfortunately. I ate pizza today so it wasn't an all bad day.
Thursday, July 13, 2oo6: After an altogether too long period of rainstorms-I just can't even try to stand it anymore-it's finally and at last starting to show some signs of being at least for now a fairly nice day. I still await news about whether or not I shall get one of those jobs. I'm a-rootin for the one at the University of Scranton's library of course but hey for now I should just keep my eyes and ears peeled. Whatever happened to that temporary agency is entirely beyond me. Today I went over to the church's rectory to get my envelopes.
Friday, July 14, 2006: It started out miserably foggy and now it's a real scorcher. It's even hotter in my car because I don't have
air conditioning'; return true;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px double; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtue;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px doubturn true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lair%20condle; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onn true;" href=r%20conditioning">air connone" onmouseout="window.status=''; retditioning">air conditioning. Last night I watched the Elizabeth Taylor classic,
Butterfield 8. It also starred Eve Arden, Eddie Fisher(a former Mr. Elizabeth Taylor), Laurence Harvey, Dina Merrill, Susan Oliver and Kay Medford. I keep racking up those 60's classics and old movies in general. I keep waiting to hear about one of those jobs I applied for. Meanwhile all sorts of other things have to be done. I go back to Wilkes Barre tomorrow for a Carmelite meeting.
Saturday, July 15, 2006: It's raining again(everybody sing the Supertramp song). I was out early today to the Carmelite meeting even though it's a Franciscan feast day(St. Bonaventure of Bagnoregio). Tomorrow, because of its being a Sunday, the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel will not be celebrated. While at the Little Flower Residence I found out about yesterday's job fair so I made sure I picked up an application. I made a mistake and ended up having to come home by way of a route that's other than the one I've gotten used to by now. It was a neat change of pace. I swear the roads around here go around in circles.
Monday, July 17, 2006: Since Saturday, we've been having a veritable heat wave. Last night I saw
Foreign Correspondent. The only familiar names in the cast are Robert Benchley, Laraine Day and Alfred Hitchcock in an uncredited bit part. Alas, I still await word on job-wise circumstances. I have to get in touch with the Little Flower to find out what openings they have. It doesn't pay to bother to apply for anything I can't get anyway. Life around here has been getting nicer every day but I have to lose weight. The local parishes are still undergoing a shakedown.
Tuesday, July 18, 2006: The by now aggravating heat wave is still out of control. My car, of course, has no air conditioning so I'm especially peeved whenever I have to drive anyplace. I spoke to someone from the Little Flower Home and she said there were no openings other than laundry people, floor people and nurses' aides. Shucks and wazoo. At least my Friday dance is gaining in popularity. For that I get all sorts of feedback. I've been trying to build up traffic on my blogs by visiting other sites and advertising. I've become one of those compulsive characters. Lately I've been reading Charles Dickens' The Pickwick Papers. I'll have to tell you all about it pretty soon.
Wednesday, July 19, 2006: Pennsylvania's most distinguished native son celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday. Mr. Peanut, the one and only ace boon legume, is still most certainly quite the handsome guy for his age. There was a peanut parade but the chunky's are boycotting it because the creamy's didn't want them to march. The grand marshall is a member of the loyal order of fluffernutters.
Thursday, July 20, 2006: Alas, the world of the arts has sustained a great and irreparable loss. Recently, we mourned the death of
Red "Never Got a Dinner" Buttons. The Borscht Belt/Catskills, movie , tv, etc. comedian died at the age of 88. Tomorrow we have to do the Friday peanut dance. For practice, go to:
http://www.planters.com/dancing Maybe that will help us overcome all the heatstroke. I've heard that my old stomping grounds, New York, was recently under threat of a hurricane. Let's hope it doesn't happen.
Friday, July 21, 2006: Hey, are we all doing the Friday peanut dance really well by now or what? Yesterday, my parents and I finally and at last got around to making that long promised trip to the
St. Anne's Passionist Monastery in Scranton, Pa. It's an easy trip and it's during the novena for the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne. Up until then, I'd only visited the Passionists in Connecticut and New York City. Sweltering heat and thunderstorms are stilll the order of each day around here, alas. I'm still trying to pick up as much mileage as possible for my blogs. My
http://www.wheresgeorge.com stats even seem to be picking up lately too.
Saturday, July 22, 2006: My old parish,
Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in Lindenhurst, N.Y. , recently held a very successful annual feast between July 12 and 16. Their five ethnic nights were: Polish, Irish, Italian, U.S. and German. For all the groovy pictures go to
http://www.olphlindenhurst.org/feastphotos.htm Monsignor Daniel S. Hamilton and company-Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society beer salesmen, etc. -must have gone pert near stark raging nuts without my indispensible assistance-HA!HA!-but somehow a most splendid time seemed to have been had by all.
Monday, July 24, 2006: The heat wave seems to have subsided a smidge, at least yesterday was a bit on the way cool side. Today, too, shows signs of being a bit cooler than average. I"ve been doing pretty well lately with
The Pickwick Papers. I'm still hoping for signs of better luck with
http://www.wheresgeorge.com Where has all that money gone? I know it has to be out there somewhere. Other people even get hits in foreign countries. I'm stuck with all the local yokels. Drinking cold water and waiting for bites from my resumes is the order of the day. Yesterday I saw the Hitchcock classic
Suspicion. It included Cary(Judy, Judy, Judy) Grant, Joan Fontaine, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Dame May Whitty, Nigel(Dr. Watson, I presume) Bruce, Leo G. (Waverly from
The Man from U.N.C.L.E) Carroll, and Hitchcock.
Tuesday, July 25, 2006: Last night I watched the Sherlock Holmes classic, The Woman In Green. It starred Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Hillary(of Abbott & Costello fame)Brooke, and Eve Amber. Right after that I saw the movie version of Graham Greene's classic novel, The Third Man. It starred Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles, Wilfrid Hyde-White, Lee Strasberg, and just plain Valli.
This morning, shortly after 7a.m. Mass at St. Cecelia's in Exeter, I went to the Department of Labor in Wilkes Barre and got another resume together so I can get into their files in hopes of getting a job. It's still hot here but cooler than a few days ago.
Wednesday, July 26, 2006: Last night, I watched My Favorite Brunette, with Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour, Peter Lorre, Lon Chaney, Jr., Bing Crosby and Alan Ladd. Today, thanks to Anne M., I sent in a resume to Geisinger Medical Center in Wilkes Barre. The heat is still out of control. Drink lots of very cold water. Those sudoku puzzles might be a nice distraction from the weather. They drive me nuts.
Thursday, July 27, 2006: Last night, to my chagrin, I missed most of Herman's Hermits' Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter but at least I got a chance to see Bonnie and Clyde with Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, Denver Pyle, Dub Taylor, Estelle Parsons, Gene Wilder and the interestingly named Evans Evans. A couple of these people were really familiar fixtures on 60's hillbilly TV comedies. Michael J. Pollard is he consummate nerd boy. Yesterday and today are both entirely too hot for me and on top of that I just cut the grass.
Friday, July 28, 2006: Last night I could have watched Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison and a cast of thousands of other 60's icons but hey puuh leeese! It started at 8p.m. and went on for over four hours!! I hope to see it some other time. The heat wave still goes on and yesterday I spent pert near the whole day with a headache, sick and tired. My California connection, Cathleen, says people over there are stuck with hundred (at least) degree heat waves. On top of that I need a haircut but enjoy driving people nuts with my hippie image. Right before I got to the library I got gas. Hey at least it's about fitty cent less expensive here than in NY.
Saturday, July 29, 2006: The heat wave just goes on and on. Last night I finally got a chance to see my very first ever-yes, folks, finally and at last!!-Brigitte Bardot movie. As everyone knows by now, she was John Lennon's ideal woman. I saw A Very Private Affair. It featured, besides Bardot, Marcello Mastroianni, and Louis Malle, who was also the director. I have been trying to keep reading and watching old movies. Hey, one never knows when it will come in handy especially since I don't happen to like sports. When I get a chance to meet new people around here, I'll at least have something to say.
Monday, July 31, 2006: A full thirty five years ago tomorrow was the legendary
Concert for Bangla Desh, starring Beatle George Harrison and featuring Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston and Leon Russell. It was great musically but alas it started the boring ball rolling for all those pop star fundraisers to come.
http://www.theconcertforbangladesh.com Today's a real scorcher, a continuation of the heat wave, much as Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and Linda Ronstadt warned us of. This morning I just finished
The Pickwick Papers all waspy and nice and I've just started Tom Wolfe's hippie counter-cultural classic
The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. It's a veritable testament to 60's flower power and hippiedom. Dylan, Ken Kesey, the Grateful Dead, Jack Kerouac all wander in and out of its pages. Movie-wise, I saw Humphrey Bogart's
High Sierra on Saturday. Ida Lupino, Barton (
I Dream of Jeannie) Maclane, Cornel Wilde, Paul Harvey, and Zero the Dog (as Pard) were in it. Last night, I saw
Dark Passage, also with Bogart. This one included Lauren Bacall, and Agnes (
Bewitched) Moorehead. Finally, I saw Bette Davis'
Jezebel. Also appearing were Henry(
The Smith Family) Fonda, Spring (
That Girl)Byington, and-lest we presume to forget-both Rochester and Stymie.
Tuesday, August 1, 2006: Last night I saw One Way Passage, with William Powell and Kay Francis, Confession with Kay Francis and Basil Rathbone, and Captain Blood, based on the classic Rafael Sabatini novel, with Errol Flynn, Olivia (still alive!!!) de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Guy Kibbee, Vernon(Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy) Steele and of course, lest we forget, good old Stymie. I've also been getting very heavily into The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Welcome back to 1965. Today's just about the worst day of the heat wave. The librarian told somebody he expects 100 degree temperature. Yesterday, in the mail I got the Tidings from my N.Y. council. I'll have to tell you tomorrow about what's in it. I really enjoy keeping track of the old gang. Tomorrow I have to say hello and happy birthday to cousins Fran and Elaine.
Wednesday, August 2, 2006: A happy birthday hoo ha to Fran and Elaine. Yesterday I saw Angela Lansbury's The Three Musketeers. It also starred Vincent Price, Gig Young, Gene Kelly,Lana Turner, June Allyson, and other notables of that era.. After that, there was Lansbury's The Manchurian Candidate. It starred Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, John McGiver, and other notables from that era. Today I saw A Girl In Ever Port, with a brotherless Groucho Marx, William Bendix, Don Defore, Teddy Hart from the Our Gang Comedies and others from that era. The weather's still too hot and today may be the worst. Tonight I go to a KofC meeting. My New York council is having an Americana music night, trips to Spain(well I never been to Spain but I been to Pennsylvania) and Foxwood, a fishing trip and a golf outing.
Friday, August 4, 2006: Last night I watched my very first ever movie with either Veronica Lake or Fredric March in it. I saw I Married A Witch. I suppose it may have been the inspiration for TV's Bewitched. Besides them, Robert Benchley, Susan Hayward and many others were in it. The weather's a smidge cooler today. I tried driving to a gas station in Kingston last night and went nuts. It was pouring for a while when I got home. I found out in the Citizen's Voice that St. Anthony of Padua's blood drive is next Wednesday.
Saturday, August 5, 2006: Last night my father and I went to the first Friday/ Saturday Mass and holy hour at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary on Rte. 315 in Yatesville. Before that I watched a retrospective episode of Seinfeld. Yada yada yada. Did you know that Jerry Seinfeld will be at the Kirby Center around here on my next birthday!!? Wow!!! I reckon that's just about pert near the plum highlight of HIS career huh? I cut the grass this morning so even though the weather's about 30 degrees cooler than it's been lately(my windshield got fogged up-oh behave!!!)I worked up quite a sweat.
Monday, August 7, 2006: Last night I wathched a couple of movies that are awfully recent by my standards: I saw Fat Albert with Kenan Thompson and Bill Cosby and The Godfather with Marlon Brando, Talia Shire, James Caan, Diane Keaton, and even the living(yes to this very day even) legend of Abe (Fish) Vigoda among very many other 70s luminaries. Saturday night, I pigged out on entirely too much Chinese food. That night I got a bad headache that came back last night.
Tuesday, August 8, 2006: Today has been very cool so far. I can, finally and at last, breathe in my car. The temperature up until now has yet to go past 70 degrees. Unfortunately, Marie S., a very old friend of the family, died on Sunday morning and I have to make sure I show up at her wake later today. Over the course of the past few months, I've been becoming quite a blog addict and have been looking for ways to advertise my blogs so they can get lots of attention and generate lots of traffic. Never having been a fan of the telephone I suppose this internet fascination of mine is how I've been making up the difference.
Wednesday, August 9, 2006: Yesterday I went to Marie S's wake in West Pittston. Today I went to her funeral at the Methodist church in Plains. It was very sad because she was such a very good person. I got a chance, finally and at last, to say hello to all her kids, Sandra, Rick, Sharon and Jean Marie(Gina), whom I had not seen-and always wanted to- since our very early days many decades ago. It's too bad I couldn't have met them under nicer circumstances. At least the weather's most certainly been cooling down around here. May the heat wave be only really mild from now on.
Thursday, August 10, 2006: Today is my younger sister Mary Anne's 43 birthday. Nothing much is happening these days except for relief from the recent heat wave. We're gearing up for two upcoming kinfolk weddings. I'm absolutely exhausted and woke up at 3 a.m. with an extremely seriously annoying headache. Maybe it's because yesterday I showed up for a funeral and gave blood. At least the headache is gone.
Friday, August 11, 2006: Last night I saw Force of Evil and He Ran All the Way both with John Garfield. Yesterday I got an appointment to go to a postal service job interview next Thursday morning in Pittston. Nothing much else is new. The weather's nice and all is so far so good. I walk a few days a week.
Saturday, August 12, 2006: A groovy birthday is wished for Uncle Frankie(today) and cousin Mary Ellen(tomorrow). Today is also cousin Java and Nunziata's 33 anniversary. That's the lima bean anniversary I think. This morning according to what Anne M. specifically told me on the phone last night I was supposed to meet her at the Little Flower Manor and go to someplace south of there for a day of recollection. Oddly, though, nobody showed up. I hung around a while and left. the highest number of page views I've gotten on any of my blogs so far on ny one day is 97 on August 10 for my modblog.
Monday, August 14, 2006: Last night I saw two Neil Simon movies. One was The Odd Couple with Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and an all star cast of 70s famous people. I also saw Plaza Suite in which Matthau played three separate roles and it also included an all star cast. Cathleen, my usual e mail connection, is not available today and was not available on Friday either. The weekend was pretty quiet with no major jolt in circumstances. On Thursday, I have to go to my postal interview. DUh.
Tuesday, August 15, 2oo6: Yesterday I watched the famous Weekend at the Waldorf
with Lana Turner, Walter Pidgeon, Ginger Rogers and Leon (Mr. Ed) Ames. The week has been going so far so well. No major catastrophes have struck just yet. The weather is cooler and even the price of gas has been going down a smidge lately. Alas, I haven't been doing enough walking lately and it's starting to show in the old labonza.
Wednesday, August 16, 2006: Today is the anniversary of Elvis Presley's death and Woodstock. Lately I watched The Lost Squadron with Richard Dix, Mary Astor and Joel McCrea; Sky Giant with Richard Dix and Joan Fontaine; and Citizen Kane with Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Ruth Warrick, Agnes Moorehead and Nat King Cole. Tomorrow is my big day at the Pittston P.O. My www.modblog.com stats have finally been going through the roof.
Thursday, August 17, 2006: I'm so deliriously happy to be able to say that yesterday my www.modblog.com site hit an all-time high-and I only started it around the end of May-of 143 unique visitors and_oh yeah, I lie to you not_552 page views. This morning, at 9:30 a.m. I sat through an interview at the Pittston Post Office on Dock Street, with six other guys. The postmaster, a woman, interviewed us all together. It was a nice fifteen minutes. New York P.O.s have very many more people at these things. Right within eyeshot of the place are a Knights of Columbus council and a Burger King. Hey, while you happen to be in Pittston, I should hope for your sake you don't even think of neglecting to stop at the twenty third annual Pittston Tomato Festival today through the 20th. It even includes a tomato fight($5 fee of course) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. www.pittstontomatofestival.com Here's my inevitable trivia contribution: The original word, in English, for tomato, was "Belladonna". Literally, in Latin, that means "Beautiful woman". Obviously, then, it makes perfectly good sense, that a woman who is a real looker is often called a tomato.
Friday, August 18, 2006: Happy Friday, cha cha cha. Yesterday I saw two Carole Lombard Films. First, there was The Princess Comes Across with William(I Love Lucy) Frawley and Fred (My Three Sons) MacMurray. Then there was Love Before Breakfast with Caesar(Batman)Romero. This morning, before three a.m. I woke up with a headache. Maybe the traditional Friday dance will cure it for me. This morning, I even noticed that this blog has been getting mileage. Having not budged from 124 hits for quite a while it now has gotten 145. I just finished Vanity Fair and have started Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory.
Saturday, August 19, 2006: Yesterday I saw three Bela Lugosi movies. There were Zombies on Broadway with Wally Brown and Alan Carney, Sheldon Leonard and Sir Lancelot; Genius at Work with Wally Brown and Alan Carney: and You'll Find Out with Kay Kyser and his band featuring the legendary Ish Kabibble, as well as Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff. Hey, somebody from O.L.P.H. appears to have visited another blog of mine recently. Today was my Carmelite meeting and tomorrow is another day of recollection.
Monday, August 21, 2006: Funny Face, starring Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire and Ruta Lee, was the last movie I watched. Yesterday I went to St. Martha's Church in Stillwater, Pa. It was for a Lay Carmelite day of recollection. Fr. Joe Kakareka was in charge. There were also secular (discalced) Carmelites there from Elysburg. The scenery in that part of the Poconos is exceptionally nice. It's an entirley rural area. Besides the real livestock the farmers even have fake livestock.
Tuesday, August 22, 2006: Yesterday I watched Please Don't Eat the Daisies with Doris Day, David Niven, Madge(Batman)Blake, Janis Paige and lots of other old timers from that era. Jennifer and Joe's wedding's coming up. I guess that means it's haircut time again. The weather's hot but it's manageable. My blog stats are going through the roof. Even this one has 167 hits. My hay fever stinks but it's been worse.
Wednesday, August 23, 2006: Tomorrow's the big day. I get to go back to New York for a wedding. Larry and Rose's daughter Jennifer is marrying Joe. Today I even got a haircut right by the Wyoming Bridge at a little shopping center. The place is run by a woman named Rose. August is winding down and the weather is still warm. My car still has no air conditioning but that's the only disadvantage.
Thursday, August 24, 2006: Once again, I'm visiting Mary Anne and Steve and the kids. It's time for Michael's birthday party'; return true;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px double; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/20party">birthday party'; return true;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px double; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=22&k=birthday%20party">birthday party'; return true;" stylEXT-DECORATION: none" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.a&k=birthday%20party">birthday party'; return true;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px due;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.co2&k=birthday%20party">birtay party'; return true;" style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 3px double; TEXT-DECORATION: none" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;" href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=22&k=birthday%20party">birthday party_yesterday he turned eighteen. This weekend is Jennifer and Joe's wedding. It's nice being back in New York for a change. I'll be able to give Gary and Elaine their fudge.
Friday, August 25, 2006: Today is nice but Steve says he and Mark can't take the young uns on the boat because according to www.weather.com there's a 60% chance of rain and it's not worth the trouble. Tomorrow's the big day for Jennifer and Joe. I spent all of yesterday afternoon and last night with and awfully annoying headache. Advil and Ibuprofen didn't help. It turned out to be one of those kinds I just have to wait out.
Monday, August 28, 2006: Jennifer and Joe's wedding was an absolute smash hit. It was on Ed N.'s birthday. I was the youngest at table 13. We stayed out until pert near midnight and went back to Larry & Rose's house yesterday. I'll be at Mary Anne & Steve's until Thursday. Bridget's with her grandparents. Today Steve, the boys & I went to Manhattan for a few hours, got something to eat and did some sightseeing.
Tuesday, August 29, 2006: Today has been quite a quiet day so far. Mary Anne is gone to work. Steve, Sam and I are keeping busy and Michael is still asleep. Michael has been wondering why I am never addressed by my full name. The weather is kind of rainy and it's put a bit of a damper on any plans we may have wanted to make. Mary Ellen's son Joey recently noticed that there has been no comment about him on my blog so hi Joey.
Wednesday, August 30, 2006: A couple of nights ago, we watched one of those Bob Hope & Dorothy Lamour My Favorite...movies. I'll have to track down the name of it later. Last night we saw For Whom the Bell Tolls with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. Last night was a very busy time with lots of errands to run and a trip to an Italian restaurant, La Piazza
in Wantagh. The rain really stinks.
Friday, September 1, 2006: The rain finally appears to have stopped. Gas finally appears to have gotten less expensive. Steve and I went to see the movie Accepted in Long Beach two days ago. Mary Anne drove me home yesterday. For most of the trip I was very tired with a mid migraine but after a brief pit stop at the Wah Wah on Rte 115, where I got a capuccino, I felt much better. Michael and I are now finally on each other's e mail lists.
Tuesday, September 5, 2006: Recently I saw The Hustler, with Jackie Gleason, Paul Newman, Piper Laurie and a cast of famous folks from that era. I also saw St. Louis Blues, with Nat King Cole, Eartha Kitt, Cab (I once saw him in person)Calloway, and Billy Preston as a kid. Today the weather has been very rainy and foggy. I went to the Dept. of Labor to get help with my job search. the weekend was nice and quiet.
Wednesday, September 6, 2006: Last night I finally got a chance to see my very first ever Ingmar Bergman movies, The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries. Both star Max Von Sydow, who played Jesus Christ in The Greatest Story Ever Told. The second movie also stars Victor Sjostrom, whom everyone must recognize as the undisputed father of Swedish cinema. All has been running very quietly and smoothly lately. The Ronald has just sent us a list of all the kinfolks' birthdays. Jennifer made us include Joe's.
Thursday, September 7, 2006: I've been plugging away at www.pacareerlink.state.pa.us lately to find a job. Last night I watched the life stories of Thomas Alva Edison and the guy who invented the submarine and something about Fr. Flanagan's Boys' Town. It was a tribute to shorts. The weather was miserable this morning but it's been getting better so far. Yesterday I drove around on Rte. 315, the Pittston Bypass and everything else I'm not used to around here. Michael and I are now on each other's lists thanks to his finally having gotten an e mail address at Hofstra. My internet obsession/compulsion has been keeping me busy and he's no exception to hte list of characters I've been mixed up with.
Friday, September 8, 2006: Happy Friday. Can you do the dance? Last night I saw The Producers, Mel Brooks' late 6o's classic with Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Christopher(Mr. Belvedere) Hewett,Dick Shawn and a bunch of other 60's icons. This morning, sweltering heat or no sweltering heat, I mowed the lawn. For the past two mornings, it's been awfully foggy with lousy visibility. Movie trivia: Christopher Hewitt died on August 3, 2001 and Zero Mostel died exactly 29 years ago today.
Saturday, September 9, 2006: Last night I saw Harold & Maude starring Ruth Gordon & very few other familiar names and faces. Harold is a death-obsessed kid who falls for old odd Maude. Life has ben pretty quiet around here lately. The mornings are foggy and misty and most of hte rest of the days' weather usually turns out to be pretty groovy. I still try to take a walk at least a few times a week. My blogs are picking up traffic. This weekend doesn't seem to have anything specific that has to be done.
Monday, September 11, 2006: This weekend I saw Cape Fear with Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck and others. From what I've heart, this was also the weekend of cousin Larry's infamous annual block party in Massapequa, N.Y. Yesterday was also Krissy Krissy Krissy's birthday. This Saturday will be my birthday and Sunday will be Miz Kitti's. I often wonder if she's gotten a chance to see Honey and Cutie lately. Last night was the first Holy Name Society meeting of the new year at O.L. Sorrows. I'll have to get in touch with Jerry C. at O.L.P.H. to see how his crowd's been doing lately over in Lindenhurst. Father Walsh and his father both showed up. Mr. Walsh wants to put on a patriotic U.S.O. type show with lots of WWII songs.
Tuesday, September 12, 2006: Honolulu, with Robert Young, Burns and Allen and lots of other old-time movie stars, was on. They danced up a storm. Lately I've been noticing a colder trend in the weather. Fall is on its way. Everybody's been getting ready for Halloween and Joey's wedding in North Tonawanda. I took one of my famous walks this morning to get rid of my notorious labonza. Saturday, the ninth , was the 30th anniversary of the death of Chairman Mao tse tsung. To the very best of my knowledge, he's the only totalitarian dictator from Asia whom the Beatles ever mentioned by name in song. Lately all the newspapers seem to be covering the anniversary of the Moslem terrorist attack on Manhattan, Washington , D.C. and Pennsylvania five years ago.
Wednesday, September 13, 2006: Last night I saw Grand Illusion, with Erich von Stroheim, and Gigi, with Leslie Caron, Maurice(the birthday boy) Chevalier, Eva Gabor, Hermione Gingold and others. Today it's icy cold and raining, a truly miserable day so far. I found out from yesterday's mail that on the 19th of this month I have a class to take at the Dept of Labor in Wilkes Barre. I hope it's a nicer day, weather-wise.
Thursday, September 14, 2006: It's raining again(hello, Supertramp fans). I get sick and tired of this weather, where 60 degrees feels icy cold and my windshield is white with fog. All is going well. My Carmelite meeting is on Saturday morning. I have been trying to keep up with things as well as possible. I suppose I shall have to pass on taking a walk today unless the weather undergoes an awfully nice improvement very soon. I finished Hard Times and Gulliver's Travels a while ago and have just started Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood again. I have also been reading, a smidge at a time, St. Augustine's Confessions and City of God.
Friday, September 15, 2006: The weather is disgusting, but I can handle it. Today is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows so I went to the Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows in West Wyoming. Tomorrow's my birthday, immediately followed by Miz Kitti's. I've been keeping up with my reading. This morning after Mass, a guy in church told me about some job openings that may be available around here, possibly over in Tobyhanna. He said I should talk to Frank. I'm still hoping for the University of Scranton but I'm cool about it. The Friday dance can help keep me quite happy for now.
Saturday, September 16, 2006: It's my birthday. Today I went to my monthly Carmelite meeting and a few of us, afterwards, went out to get something to eat at the Cracker Barrel. Last night, the cable in the area didn't work so there was no TV. Later I have to go to my birthday dinner at Cooper's in Pittston. At least the weather's been so far very nice today.
Monday, September 18, 2006: Yesterday, my father and I saw a veritable plethora of Pennsylvania politicians in person. D.A. Dave Lucas held his annual fund raiser in Ashley, along with the Catholic War Veterans. Congressional candidate Dr. Joe Leonardi showed up and even Gov. Edward G. Rendell was there. I once met Gov. Hugh L. Carey of New York. These days our governor may wish to follow in California's governor's footsteps by using the name Eeeedwaaaahd. The food, beer, music etc. were all quite good. Last night I also saw Hud with Paul Newman and Patricia Neal.
Tuesday, September 19, 2006: Last night I saw a very recent(for me) movie, Out of Africa. It starred Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Klaus Maria Brandauer. Today from 10:30 to 11:30 I went to Wilkes Barre's Career Link place to find out about government jobs. I have a civil service test in Scranton on September 30. It's raining again and I'm sick and tired of it. Mary Ellen wants me to see who intends to do what for Joey's wedding. It should be fairly confusing trying to find out about travel plans, young uns, etc. Oh yeah and before I even think of forgetting to brag, when I saw the governor, my picture got into the paper. Ok, so it was only the Citizen's Voice and only a picture of me from the back but at least it's a minimum measure of notoriety.
Wednesday, September 20, 2006: Oddly I appeared to have forgotten entirely that yesterday was the feast of San Gennaro. It's not like me at all. I did have a suspicion all day, though, that it was a special occasion of some kind. I got a reminder last night at 7:30 Mass at St. Anthony's. Weather's nice today but I have yet a whole nother mild headache. I took Excedrin migraine pills for it. Maybe I got it because I read around seventy pages of David Copperfield yesterday. I'm keeping tabs for Mary Ellen's wedding guest list. Thanks to Jo Ann, I got a reminder that the Mets just won the National League East championship. Root root root for the home team....
Thursday, September 21, 2006: Great Caesar's ghost was I sick yesterday. My minor headache turned into major nausea. I was watching The Lord of the Rings and about halfway through I even got sick when Liv Tyler came on. That's a bit of a surprise because at least she's most certainly a looker. Today I feel much better though and may even watch the rest of it. I got it from the Blockbuster in West Pittston. It's much less expensive than it was a few years ago. Today I'll most probably end up cutting the grass. The weather's icy cold lately but I'm tough enough to be able to handle it.
Friday, September 22, 2006: The weather is chilly and leaves are starting to turn all those groovy far out colors. Autumn finally and at last beckons. Last night I saw the rest of The Lord of the Rings with Elijah Wood and all those other famous folks. Tolkien's a great novelist, philologist, blah blah and a major name in Catholic intellectual circles. I'm pretty sure he was one of the Inklings. Yesterday I cut the grass and everybody knows what a gas that is. The Caslowitz's will be showing up tomorrow, except Michael. Hey let's make sure we don't forget the Friday dance.
Saturday, September 23, 2006: The temperature's a bit warm. It's raining. Gas at the Turkey Hill & Unimart gas stations by St. Anthony's is only $2.29.9 so I figured what the hey and got $10 worth at Turkey Hill on the way home. Monday is my father's birthday so Mary Anne, Steve and two of the kids will be here soon. I think this time we'll end up with Chinese food instead of Cooper's.
Monday, September 25, 2006: It's most certainly been quite quiet so far compared to the really rowdy weekend. David Copperfield has most certainly been going quite well so far. I've gotten well over halfway through it. Uriah Heep_same name as the cult 60's band_has quite a reputation for being quite an evil little monster but all I can figure out so far is that he's a major nerd boy with equal parts evil and ugly. This morning I did a little cement mixing. That most certainly makes for quite a lovely life.
Tuesday, September 26, 2006: Happy birthday to my old pal Henry. We worked together in 1980 and 2004. Last night I watched Dinner at Eight with Lionel and John Barrymore, Jean Harlow, Billie Burke and a lot of other old time stars. I've been trying to become quite the old movie connoisseur. The weather's been very nice lately. Life around here is still rather quiet. I've been getting lots of traffic on my blogs these days. I finally have fewer than 200 pages to go in David Copperfield. It pays to be as literate as possible especially since I don't happen to like sports.
Wednesday, September 27, 2006: The weather outside keeps getting colder by the day. The stupidest mistake somebody can make is to wear his nice shoes in the damp grass. This morning it was so foggy the visibility was close to nothing. Every day I get more and more accustomed to life around here. This Saturday at 1:45 is my next big civil service test over on Franklin Ave. in Scranton. This one is to see about getting a job with the Department of Labor. That should most certainly be quite a pretty groovy kind of time.
Friday, September 29, 2006: Over the course of the last two nights I saw West Side Story starring John(The Addams Family) Astin, Rita(The Electric Company) Moreno and Natalie Wood. The music was by Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins. The weather lately has been rainy, foggy and miserable except when it's icy cold and cloudy. Tomorrow is my big civil service test on Franklin Avenue in Scranton. The Friday dance is in order today. All has been most certainly working out fairly well for me so far. I found out yesterday at my doctor's appointment that I'm a half inch taller than I thought and twenty pounds overweight.
Monday, October 2, 2006: Fortunately, the weekend was rather uneventful. I've been cutting down on between-meal junk food. My blog traffic has been slowly but surely going through the roof. Joey's wedding is coming up. I keep in touch quite well with all my New York connections so I have the most confusing of both worlds. The weather has been altogether too cold and foggy for me lately in the morning. Every day, though, gets, as a general rule, nicer later on, assuming it doesn't start pouring. I still await my civil service results. It was as easy as a high school kid's standardized test. Meanwhile I'm still reading like quite the little bookworm. Emma by Jane Austen is the latest on my list. Last night I must have spent around an entire hourish putting old pictures_weddings, graduations, vacations, family gatherings, etc._into albums. It's a mighty good thing for me I've always been trapped in the past anyway or I reckon I shonuf woulda gone plum loco.
Tuesday, October 3, 2006: A little while ago I cut the grass. Last night I watched an old Hal Roach movie,
Nazty Nuisance, featuring Frank Faylen, who played Dobie Gillis' father. I also saw the first episode of the famous series about St. Teresa of Avila. Lately it's colder by the day around here but at least this morning wasn't all that foggy. I found out from Eddie, who is the top banana of OLPH's lectors, that the Diocese of Rockville Centre now has the same rule as Scranton's Diocese for new lectors. On top of that, Monsignor Hamilton just sent me an invitation to go to OLPH's volunteer party. Unfortunately, I don't happen to think I'll be able to make it. St. John's sent me their usual alumni booklet and Jerry C. from OLPH just sent me their Holy Name Society newsletter.
Wednesday, October 4, 2006: It just occurred to me that everything I put into this site before July 8 appears to be missing. Last night I saw Annie Hall with Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Paul Simon and a host of other luminaries. It even featured Marshall McCluhan. As Arte Johnson once oh so famously asked: How ya doin, Marshall McCluhan? Verrrrry Intereeeesting, I reckon. The weather is cooler than I like it. Later I have to go to Mrs. G's wake and give blood at a nearby Methodist church.
Thursday, October 5, 2006: So far this is the second day in a row that my
www.modblog.com site hasn't worked. I went to the wake and blood drive yesterday with no major trouble. At the blood drive the bottled water they gave me was an absolute block of ice. I like Lindenhurst's KofC blood drive's the best of all because they give people a full meal. I got around to another walk this morning and it was a smidge cool for me because I didn't bother to wear a jacket. At least it wasn't a foggy morning.
Friday, October 6, 2006: So far this is the second day in a row that I've been able to see a half inch in front of me while driving in the morning. It's also the third day in a row that
www.modblog.com has absolutely sucked. At their very best they're really interesting but when they suck they super suck issimo. I'm getting more than a little fed up with this site too. Meanwhile I'm picking up my traffic and I've also finished with
Emma. I've just started
Mansfield Park, also by Jane Austen. Life is good but annoying. I still have to lose plenty of weight.
Saturday, October 7, 2006: Mary Ellen's son Joey gets married today. Go Java go Java. For anyone who may be interested in Lectio Divina, please go to:
http://goaddr.com/8sb and find out about this system of prayer. It's been a very cold morning but at least I can see because it's not so foggy out. For anyone living in the general area of Wilkes Barre, Pa. who may be interested in joining lay Carmelites, please contact the folks at:
http://goaddr.com/84j for details. Last night I saw
The King and the Chorus Girl with Edward Everett Horton, Jane Wyman and Joan(Miss Kitti from
Gunsmoke) Blondell.
Monday, October 9, 2006: It's Columbus Day and John Lennon's birthday. Some woman in the Citizen's Voice complained a while ago that Columbus was racist, anti_Semitic, etc. Ho freakin hum usual liberal revisionist history. Last night I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still. It's the classic early 50's movie that inspired a Ringo Starr album cover. Klaatu barada nikdo. The weather out here is cold, foggy especially early in the morning. I've been trying to lose weight but my luck's not so good so far. I got my results from my civil service test. Eighty six is good except fifty people did better and nine got the same grade as I did. Forty did even worse.
Tuesday, October 10, 2006: I heard the big North Tonawanda wedding went really well. All has been so far so nice around here too. Of course,
www.modblog.com still sucks. The weather this morning was insanely foggy, but as usual it was followed by a very nice day. Gas is way down in price. I'm still reading
Mansfield Park. It's just another day in the life of a guy who's still getting to know life around here. My blogs have been picking up traffic. That's always very good news.
Wednesday, October 11, 2006: Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming, will be presenting a U.S.O. musical entertainment type show honoring all veterans at the church hall, eighth st. on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Due to limited seating, please make reservations by calling 287 8343, 714 4509 or 287 9400. Life has been rolling right along even though I have a bit of a headache today. The computers were very slow yesterday but they're in better shape for now.
Thursday, October 12, 2oo6: It's the original Columbus Day. In spite of what the disgruntlled woman in the Citizen's Voice said, I happen to think Columbus was one of the true greats. Spare me the liberal propaganda, please. Please go to
http://goaddr.com/xbh for some very nice pictures of my kinfolk. This morning was an absolutely miserable rainstorm but great Caesar's ghost it's nice out now. Lately I've been reading
Hard Times again. My blog traffic has been increasing except I'm still very angry with the
http://www.modblog.com characters.
Friday, October 13, 2006: It's Friday the 13th. As each of us listens to the
Twilight Zone theme wafting through his head, he can just be a smidge more careful today. When I first got up the temperature was below 35 degrees and all my car windows were a sheet of ice. For me, that's very much worse luck than I'm used to. All else has been working out well for me lately so far. I've been keeping up my reading. I've been sticking to my diet_ish, with no between meal or late_in_the _day eating. My car could use an oil change very soon. Please check out a very nice site:
http://www.kuntry-kritters.com Saturday, October 14, 2006: Last night I talked to Joe again on the phone. I can never seeem to catch Mary Ellen but I wanted a chance to say hello to her too. Joey's wedding was a smash hit. He and his Mrs. are in Florida. There's a big early blizzard in Buffalo, the cold capital of N.Y. Here we have lots of frost and cold everyday. My windshield is pure white every morning. At least one advantage Buffalo has over us is that it's a helluva lot flatter. When we get snow, mountains make it even worse. My blog traffic is continuing to improve. I'm really learning to enjoy all this high_tech stuff. I always use pseudonyms. O.L.P.H. will soon be having their volunteer party over in Lindenhurst. Of course I got an invitation but alas I can't possibly show up.
Monday, October 16, 2006: A couple of nights ago, I watched In the Heat of the Night with Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger(is he ever a dead ringer for Carroll O'Connor in the same role on TV or what?) among others. Lately the weather is very foggy over hear in the morning with ice on car windows. Later in the day it gets nice and cold. I started reading Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor again. Amazingly, the library's computers don't seem to have much traffic right now. Cathleen from California must be too busy to keep in touch these days. Most of my other e mail connections have been very quiet lately too.
Tuesday, October 17, 2006: I have a very annoying headache and there's an icy cold rainstorm outside. Nothing much interesting is going on. October is turning out to be a very interesting time for me so far though. There are all sorts of interesting things going on. I suppose my high school, St. John The Baptist in West Islip, N.Y. must have already gotten their homecoming over with but I'll have to track it down to find out. O.L.P.H's Octoberfest(really all of Lindenhurst's)must have been pretty groovy too.
Wednesday, October 18, 2006: Last night I saw Rosemary's Baby on dvd. Mia (Dear Prudence's sister) Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon and all sorts of other 60's luminaries were in it. My headache is much better. I started Homer's The Iliad last night. The weather is much better today. I often get cold spells. Maybe there's a kind of connection to the dead, grateful or otherwise.
Thursday, October 19, 2006: I'm still on my sort_of diet_ish. I've also included some exercise. Besides few between_meal pigouts, I now try to work out for at least a few minutes a day, at first, on a chair I have that's good for stomach crunches. Sit_ups have always been a veritable bane thereof of my existence so this way I get to cheat. I found out this morning that the Mets
www.mets.com won again and are on their way to the world series. Jo Anne is happy. Larry and Java are not.
Monday, October 23, 2006: Lately I've been going to the St. Jude novena at St. Mary Help of Christians, the first Catholic church in all Pittston. A few nights ago I watched The Life of the Party, with Harriet Hilliard, Joe Penner & Parkyakarkas. Yesterday I got a really annoying headache. I'm starting to get used to life around here. Pretty soon I shall be a real good ole boy.
Tuesday, October 24, 2006: Yesterday I saw Edward Scissorhands with Johnny Depp, Wynona Ryder and Vincent Price. Hey, for me that's a mighty recent one. Yesterday I heard that today we were supposed to have snow but so far I haven't seen it. All has been going fairly well for me around here lately. The St. Jude novena continues. The Mets lost out on their chance at the World Series unfortunatley. It's good for Larry and Java but bad for Jo Anne. Fran came over for a visit last night while Uncle Frankie is visiting his brother.
Thursday, October 26, 2006: We wish quite a veritable plethora of birthday kudos to Cathleen in California. A couple of nights ago I saw Scaramouche with Stewart Granger, Eleanor Parker, John Dehner, and others. Lately I've been keeping up with the St. Jude novena in Pittston. A few days ago I heard from the Times Leader. A woman called on the phone and asked why I registered with the Pro_life party instead of as a Democrat or Republican. I may end up in the paper on Sunday. Fran may be back for yet another visit again tonight.
Monday, October 30th, 2006: My name got into the Times Leader yesterday. It was in an article on third parties in Luzerne County, Pa. Lately I watched King Kong & A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The cold weather time change, always a veritable nightmare for me, just started yesterday at 6:00 p.m. Of course, I've never like its getting dark so early. Lately there's been a whole lot of thunder, but never any rain. It's an obvious metaphor.
Tuesday, October 31st, 2006: Happy Halloween to one and all. All the little young uns are in their Halloween finery. Aunt Lauren's grandson, Benjamin, is a little fireman. Lately every morning the windows of my car are a veritable sheet of ice. Happy birthday to my two old friends, Jim(California) & Earl(Puerto Rico, I reckon?). It's been very cold lately but when I was a young un, Halloween was absolutely bitter.
Monday, November 6, 2006: Latley this site, among others, has been awfully bad. The last two movies I saw were King Kong & The Thin Man. These days the weather is extremely seriously confusing. On top of everything else, I spent all day yesterday with a very annoying headache. I spent a large part of the day at Uncle Frankie's. My blog traffic has been going absolutely through the roof. Friday was Steve's _Jim's & Cathleen's brother's_birthday so kudos to him. We're all up there these days.
Tuesday, November 7, 2006: Lately I saw The Scarlet Pimpernel and Spaceballs (a really new one for me.). Today is election day. Pennsylvania's election days are much less crowded and annoying as New York's. It was the first time I voted in front of a computer screen instead of behind a curtain with handles. Tonight I intend to try to go to a Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Pittston to listen to a speech by Raymond De Sousa about the Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. He's very interesting. I've seen him frequently on EWTN.
Saturday, November 11, 2006: It's Veteran's day. The weather's very nice today and the library's not the least bit crowded. Raymond De Sousa's speech was very interesting on Tuesday night. I'm hoping to see more of those kinds of things from now on. I've always really liked his show. There's a blood drive over at O.L. Sorrows on Monday and I'm hoping to be able to show up. Please go to http://clickingirish.com to increase your blog traffic.
Monday, November 13, 2006: It's fifteen years to the day since I broke my left arm at my old alma mater, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, New York. Last night I won $9 in the 50/50 at Our Lady of Sorrows In West Wyoming, Pa. It's very cold today and rained all day and night yesterday. Site of the day: http://bikinihitz.tx4u2d.com
Tuesday, November 14, 2006: Happy birthday this month to: Wendy, Scott, two Javas, Keeren(today), Sarah Jean & Kim. Yesterday's weather was an absolute nightmare & today's is awful too. I didn't bother with the blood drive because I gave too recently. Site of the day: http://www.stupidsurf.com I'm keeping busy. Among other things, I've been giving my sites as much mileage as possible. The entire world must know of my madness.
Wednesday, November 15, 2006: Today the weather's fairly nice but lately it's stunk. Tomorrow is expected to be a veritable reprise of the recent rainstorms. Today I salute http://asiatargetedtraffic.com I just finished reading Jane Austen's Emma for the second time. I like it because it's reasonably short. Vinnie sent me an e_mail saying I should wish Keeren a happy 5oth. Time flies.
Thursday, November 16, 2006: Last night I took Vinnie up on his advice and called Keeren a happy birthday. She was in a very big hurry, though, because she had to get ready for a very much needed appointment. Oh well, at least I most certainly tried. The weather is really supposed to be a total nightmare later today. So far it's obscenely unseasonably warm. Once again I have started Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood. It reminds me of the way the liberals are trying constantly to pull one over on people. I have to thank everybody from http://www.mybloglog.com who has linked to my site and joined my group. I hope each one will visit me and leave many messages.
Friday, November 17, 2oo6: Yesterday's weather was an absolute and total nightmare. It was pouring all day & all night. Tomorrow I have to go over to Wilkes-Barre for my Carmelite meeting. It's a little colder than I like it today but I'm happy with it. Today's site of the day: http://dragonsurf.mysurfsite.com Everytime somebody visits one of these sites I get more credit. I heard George Martin's son will soon be releasing a new album of experimental Beatles' stuff. I shall have to see what it is like.
Saturday, November 18, 2006: Today I went to my monthly Carmelite meeting in Wilkes-Barre. I took Main St. home instead of River Rd. and it's a roller coaster. The weather is nice but cold. Tonight I shall start going to 5 p.m. Mass instead of 10 a.m. on Sunday. The ushers at O.L. Sorrows claim they need help at 5:00 Mass. Today's site of the day is http://blogmad.net Please visit these sites. I need the credit.
Monday, November 20, 2oo6: Thanksgiving is very fast approaching. The weather today is cold with sleet. Question for the week: Would you rather hunt with Dick Cheney or go for a drive with Ted Kennedy? Mary Anne, Steve & the kids will be here for Thursday's festivities pretty soon. I went to Latin Mass yesterday at 4:30 at Child Jesus Church on Broad S. in Pittston. I got a headache in the middle of the night but one pill got it over with. Last night I watched Cecil B. Demille's Cleopatra with Claudette Colbert. Site of the day: http://ujhits.com/?ref=28
Tuesday, November 21, 2006: It's still very cold. Last night I watched Marlon Brando's On the Waterfront with its all_star cast. I even cheated a little and ate a Whopper. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the JFK assassination. Thursday is Thanksgiving. All has been working out fairly well for me so far. I've been reading St. Augustine's Confessions and a book by St. John of the Cross.
Wednesday, November 22, 2006: Today is the 43rd anniversary of JFK's assassination and the feast of St. Cecelia, patroness of liturgical music. I went to Mass at St. Cecelia's in Exeter. Last night I saw The Bells of St. Mary's with Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman. The latest e_controversy is over a mail I sent that I got from Johno. Cousin the Ronald, who's Johno's old friend, flipped out & sent a rantin' ragin' tirade to all the people on my list, recommending that I check with http://www.snopes.com before every move I make. Would that he were so conscientious about the stuff sent out by those liberal young uns of his. I hereby apologize to everyone on my list who was forcibly compelled to get the Ronald's ad nauseum spiel. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
