ZITI
My father & Uncle Frankie both missed their big game last night. They were too run down to go out in the bitter cold weather. The cousins are all in a twitter rambling on about the Yankees & Phillies. Lately the weather has been consistently colder than average. For the past few mornings in a row my windows have been covered with ice. This morning, as usual, I got a copy of the Wanderer in the vestibule at O.L. Mt. Carmel. It has a lot of really interesting articles in it. Tomorrow's the annual pasta dinner at O.L. Sorrows. It's ziti. O.L. Mt. Carmel will be having theirs next Sunday. Uncle Frankie will be going with us tomorrow but Fran won't be available.

WORLD SERIES
The weekend has arrived. Late yesterday afternoon there was an icy cold rainstorm & today so far it's been very cold so we shall have to do a shivering Friday dance. Surprisingly I don't have to lector at either Mass this weekend. Uncle Frankie is still recuperating from his recent operation so he will have to be a bit inconspicuous for a while. My father may not go to the football game tonight. I just noticed that the Yankees have beaten the Phillies in this year's World Series, four games to two. We all know now who will have quite an interesting bunch of hairstyles for the next Fourth of July. Yesterday I finished the book about St. Therese & started a book by St. John of the Cross.

OPERATION
Last night we all went out for pizza at Tony's. It's on Main Street on the way home from Pittston. Fr. Jackson, Neil, Jonathan, Ada, Lynn & I were there. Never having gone there before I didn't know what to expect. It was a nice place. We got six pies. They were round. Usually pizzerias in this area only have square pies. While we were waiting in the church's parish center some musicians were practicing Christmas carols. They showed up with guitars & other instruments. The weather's been fairly nice lately although the mornings are usually icy. Fran came over last night for a while. Uncle Frankie's operation yesterday worked out fairly well. He's been recuperating quite nicely.

WORLD SERIES
Tonight there's supposed to be yet another meeting at O.L. Mt. Carmel. We are supposed to go out to get something to eat. We shall never go to the Victory Pig on a Wednesday again because of all the crowd & traffic. Although someone took a picture of me yesterday as I was getting ready to vote, I didn't see one in the Citizen's Voice today. Maybe it ended up in the Times Leader. The World Series goes on & virtually everyone except me is interested in it. The New Yorkers & Pennsylvanians among my cousins are waiting to find out who will have to get a skinhead hairdo next July. The weather's very nice again today but there was ice on my windshield again this morning. As usual the ice remover worked quite well on it. Fran called last night at around 9:30. For the past few days I've been reading a very good Carmelite book about St. Therese of Lisieux & her little way.

ELECTION DAY
Yesterday I went to Barnes & Noble again. I needed another can of de_icer for my car so I wanted to make sure I took advantage of the trip to see if there was a car care store in the area. Other than Sears in the mall, there doesn't seem to be one. I ended up going to AA in Exeter, on Wyoming Avenue, to get what I needed. Today is Election Day so I made sure I stopped into the election booth to vote. People were handing out flyers outside the door so it appears electioneering isn't considered unethical around here. From what I know of Luzerne County politicians' reputation, neither is anything else. When I got inside the room, Howard asked if I should be willing, unlike everybody else so far, to pose for a picture for the Citizen's Voice. I said yes. Today's Steve's birthday. He's one of my old friends from Lindenhurst, now living in California.

IRISH FOOD
The Halloween weekend went quite well. There were absolutely no trick_or_treaters whatsover. It must have been because of the rain & wind. Aunt Lauren & Uncle Jim showed up for their annual visit with their grandson Benjamin, Michelle's son. He was dressed in his little policeman costume. He'd rather be a fireman than a policeman when he grows up because policemen get tazed too much. On Saturday Fran showed up with pizza & chicken wings for Halloween. Uncle Frankie came over yesterday for the first time in a while. He ate with us. We had corned beef & cabbage. Last night I showed up at a Holy Name Society meeting. Jerry made hot dogs & sauerkraut. Today is Sean's birthday. He's Kristi's fiance. She's my goddaughter over in a suburb of Buffalo.
