YET ANOTHER DICKENS BOOK

Last night, I watched two old silent movies. The second & longer one was Lon Chaney's The Monster. A couple of days ago I started re_reading Dickens' Bleak House. Like Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood, but in an entirely different style, it can very easily be understood as an indictment of liberalism. Last night it rained & today is a smidge cooler, by about ten degrees, than it's usually been lately. KrissyKrissyKrissy's visiting a cousin of hers for a party. Today's the thirty_ninth anniversary of RFK's assassination. I met him once at his very last ever St. Patrick's Day parade. Did LBJ really have a hand in the JFK assassination or what? That, not even the least bit surprisingly, is the latest buzz these days.

OLD WOODY ALLEN MOVIE

A couple of nights ago, I saw Woody Allen's "Take the Money & Run." I've always been a very big fan of his. He's like the Jewish version of me, a Yorker who just can't get a break. Yesterday Fran & Uncle Frankie came over for supper. It was the first Sunday of the month & that appears to have gotten to be a habit by now. Johno told me a few days ago that the bowling league's dinner at the Milleridge Inn was a couple of Fridays ago. All the remaining league members & new people were there, I should hope. Today is Mary Anne & Steve's nineteenth anniversary. The time most certainly flew by on that one, huh? KrissyKrissyKrissy was around fifteenish minutes late getting home this morning. Someone outside is packing an umbrella so I take it our long drought is just about over. The weather has been awfully dry lately. Grass for miles around is quite an annoying shade of brown. I felt stupid even bothering to cut the grass.

JFK/RFK

Here's a smidge of Kennedy trivia for you: In 1963, JFK was killed only two days after RFK's thirty_eighth birthday. In 1968, RFK was killed only one week after JFK's birthday. The fortieth anniversary of the latter's assassination is on the fifth of this month. I read a biography of RFK a few months ago & couldn't help noticing that he was quite an interesting character. Although he & JFK have always been liberal icons they really weren't all that far to the left as people might think. The weather around here has been quite groovy lately, though we get occasional split second thunderclaps every once in a while. KrissyKrissyKrissy is at a relative's graduation. The Ronald is having major problems with one of his gams. The big annual Fourth of July she.bang is right around the corner. For joy, for joy!

JUNE IS BUSTING OUT ALL OVER

KrissyKrissyKrissy is back a day earlier than I had expected. I finished Emma yesterday & started immediately upon my umpteenth reading of Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood. Liberals don't like her, for all the predictable reasons. She's always been a very favorite of mine. Her two books are both very short. She also wrote a veritable plethora of short stories, essays, etc. She only lived to be thirty nine years old. Fran came over for a little while last night. Uncle Frankie has a bit of trouble with his back. The weather's been very warm lately & I don't suppose he's looking forward to all the aggravation. Oh, well, from what I've heard, Monsignor Hamilton's days as pastor of O.L.P.H. are just about over this month. What a long, strange trip it's been. It just won't be quite the same parish anymore.

MCDONALD'S

Not much of note has been happening lately around here. Here's the last of my blood drive junk food news:
Today I finally got my free Egg McMuffin over with at the local friendly neighborhood McDonald's. I got a raspberry iced tea with it. That was the catch. I like tea but it was the mandatory condition for the freebie. The weather outside is smashingly groovy lately. I get more exercise & lose more weight that way. The library is smashingly quiet right now but it may get hopping over the course of the next little while. KrissyKrissyKrissy's still in New York. Yesterday I got yet another letter from those hillbilly holy rollers. They promised to pray for me & oh yes, they wanted a donation. I think the Russian looker is wising up though. She's been pretty quiet lately. I pulled a bit of a practical joke on her to get my revenge. If I must say so I quite happen to think it's one of my very best. Last night at the Oblates' Seminary turned out really well. One of the local bishops showed up. I didn't know any of the people there though. Everybody must pay homage to the fortieth anniversary of the release of one of the Fabs' very best ever albums.

ANOTHER DAY

I've been getting closer & closer to the very end of that Jane Austen book. The weather outside is very groovy. The library is a smidge on the crowded side right now. I've been learning how to use different things on internet & now have a stats counter on each of my blogs. Tonight is the last night at the Oblates' Seminary. It's the Feast of St. Joseph Marello. The past three nights were his triduum. It's very close to here but there's an awfully long & winding road I have to travel to get there. May is pert near over & June beckons. Summer will soon officially be here. Mary Anne & Steve's anniversary is on the fourth. They'll most probably have some plans made. Those New Yorkers are quite the characters (ahem!)

TWO VERY FAMOUS BIRTHDAYS TODAY

Today is the birthday of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, thirty fifth President of the United States. He would have been ninety years old today. It's also the birthday of Burton T. Koza, Jr., my eighth grade history teacher from O.L.P.H. Many kudos to Burton the K. A couple of nights ago, I sawKing Kong again. Today the weather is very nice but a smidge cooler than usual. KrissyKrissyKrissy went to the gym for a little while after work this morning. Yesterday, Memorial Day, I took a walk over to Eighth Street after the parade had passed by. There was a very nice party going on until around noon. Michelle, Gino's wife, was there. A splendid time was had by all. These characters around here most certainly know how to party.
