NICE WEEKEND SO FAR

The Mother's Day weekend so far has been pretty quiet. My parents wanted to get reservations for tomorrow at Agolino's but they called too late in the week unfortunately. Mary Anne, Steve & kids will be coming in next weekend. They're not available this weekend because of schedule conflicts. The weather's been rainy lately. I heard a weather report on the radio say that it's more like winter than spring in some areas. Lately there's been nothing much worth bothering with on TV but "I Love Lucy", "Jeopardy" & "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" always keep me happy. There are a few other good shows too. Of course, since I virtually never even bother to pay any attention whatsoever to current pop culture, I'm always genuinely stumped about the questions, on the game shows, that cover anything like that. At Mass this morning, I found the usual copy of The Wanderer newspaper over at O.L. Mt. Carmel. Right after Mass, I made sure I went right next door to see to it that I got more gas before the next price hike. They've really been rooking us blind even more than usual these days. Last night I made sure I looked over some of the questions I have to answer for the next Carmelite meeting next Saturday morning. Five o'clock today I have to lector at Mass because I switched with Linnae. Lately there always seems to be a missing lector at each Mass. Yesterday I tried to east a few pieces of licorice from a bag that was in the cupboard. It turned out to be quite a major mistake though. They were entirely too hard. It appears that licorice, to my undying chagrin, most certainly can't be counted on to last forever.

REGISTRATION CAME

Yesterday I got my registration card & sticker through the mail. I put my card in my glove compartment & sticker on my license plate this morning. I only have one plate & it's in the back of the car. Here in Pa., unlike New York, they don't put one in the front. Fran called yesterday & Uncle Frankie came over for a while. Yesterday I also went to the Little Flower Manor for yet another job fair. Sister Catherine was there. I got interviewed by a woman named Jean Marie who explained all the requirements. It only lasted a very short time compared to the Wachovia fairs because they're only one organization. The weather got nice after a while yesterday but this morning it was raining again. As I went back & forth to St. Anthony's I noticed that gas prices are going through the roof. As I was going through Price Chopper this morning I noticed some gigantic woman was rambling on on a cell phone the entire time she was there. At least she spoke in an acceptable tone of voice. There was an absolute missing link of a woman in here yesterday who rambled on, full blast, at somebody on a cell phone. These cell phone idiots make such a bunch of fools out of themselves & yet they absolutely don't seem to have any idea of just how big a bunch of freaks they really are.

SPRING SHOWER

It seems to have started raining last night. This morning when I went out I needed windshield wipers & headlights. After 7:00 Mass at St. Anthony's I went to Turkey Hill on Wyoming Avenue for the paper. It was fairly crowded. The one good thing is that it's all a very nice spring shower. I just heard a couple of ladies say that it has stopped raining & is expected to get nicer for the rest of the day. That's very good news because later today I have to go to the Little Flower Manor for yet another job fair. My father got a couple of calls yesterday from his insurance agent who wants to see him at 3:00this afternoon. I went to bed last night with a mild headache. Unfortunately, I took it for granted that it would go away on its own over the course of the night. I woke up in the middle of the night & it was still there so I took a couple of pills for it. It went away after a while. Last night Linnae called. She wanted to switch lector assignments again. It's like O.L.P.H. crowd over here.

QUIET DAY

Uncle Frankie came over for a while yesterday. I got a letter from Baby Age. Unfortunately it turned out to be a rejection letter. They said they can't hire me right now but intend to keep my resume for future reference, just in case. That's the very first time I've ever heard of a company sending a letter to somebody they don't intend to hire. Schools & other organizations send rejection letters to students, etc. but this struck me as quite unusual. This morning I went out at around 6:30 for milk because there wasn't a drop left as of yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately it was cheaper at the Price Chopper than Unimart but they most probably, unlike Path Mark, aren't open that early in the day. This morning, when I first showed up at the library, I noticed there were extra cars here early. Usually that doesn't mean anything. The church next door may have something going on. Today it was a library meeting though. I recognized the guy who came through the door the same time as I did. He's the top banana of the Hoyt Library. Surprisingly, I just found out yesterday on "Jeopardy" that Bob Dylan has won this year's Pulitzer Prize for music. To my combined surprise & chagrin, neither John Lennon nor Paul McCartney has ever been accorded any such distinction. They should especially get one as a duo.

CUT THE GRASS

This morning I mowed the lawn. It was very dull but at least it was over with fast. Instead of mowing up & down this time I went from left to right. Uncle Frankie came over last night. He gave my parents a cake for their anniversary. Fran called. Mary Anne & family also called & even sent flowers. I'm not absolutely positive of when but I know they'll be coming in for a visit within the next couple of weeks. Having seen, yesterday, that my facial stubble was getting more than a smidge stupid looking, I made sure I shaved. Lately I make sure I try to shave practically every day but sometimes I cheat a little & let it go for a few days at a time. I noticed in the jobs section of the Citizen's Voice yesterday that the Carmelite Manor will be having a job fair on Thursday. I'll be going just in case they have something available for me. I'm used to going over there once a month for Carmelite meetings anyway. The weather's been very nice lately but I overheard the library people say it may start raining pretty soon. I've gotten that impression too. I finished that Chekhov play again last night. I shall have to start another one pretty soon too. I've also been reading St. Ignatius' Spiritual Exercises.

BIG ANNIVERSARY

Today is my parents' fifty second anniversary so they want to spend the day at the Mohegan Sun. It's also El Cinco de Mayo. Mary, whom I knew for six years in school, is now a Spanish teacher. Things like this always come up with her. I took Spanish for three years in high school. Alas, it was most certainly never quite my best subject but I've always been interested, ever since then, in lots of things about Spain. Today happens to be specifically for Mexicans. Uncle Frankie came over for a while yesterday. The weather's still very nice. Somehow my house key fell off the chain yesterday. It's most certainly quite a good thing that I first noticed it at home. That's much better than if it would have happened someplace else when I was out. Unfortunately that's the kind of thing that typically happens to me. Last night Fran called. She wanted my mother to make sure she got a chance to watch a TV movie on Channel 4 with Judy Dench. I didn't bother to watch it but I read about in the TV section of the newspaper. It most certainly got a very positive review from critics. This weekend I didn't have to lector. Frank, from the Holy Name Society, ended up drafting me into being an usher.
